The layer you put on last is the one people actually see, so it may as well be the piece
that does the most work. Our coats and jackets run from the everyday to the occasion:

and shackets for the weeks when it is not quite cold yet, and padded and quilted styles
for when it properly is.

If you buy one thing this season, make it a trench coat or a longline overcoat. Both go
over knitwear, over a midi dress, over almost anything, and neither looks out of place at
nine in the morning or seven at night. For milder days, a cropped jacket or a lightweight
shacket is easier to live with than a full coat. For the cold end of the range, look at the
padded and quilted styles, or a teddy or borg texture if you want warmth without weight.
